Summary

The Deployment Tool is a free application that simplifies the deployment of web applications from their source location to the live server. It automatically detects which files will be changed on the latest deployment and allows you to back up those files before copying your new website across.

You can save the deployment as a project and reload that project to simplify future deplyments. You can also save a log of changed files for each deployment version.

Full Description

This is a Windows based application designed to simplify the deployment of web applications and projects. Some web projects are so large they cannot be "installed" in the same way that windows applications can be installed, and it can be difficult to maintain different website versions.

When deploying new web applications to the server, you may find yourself backing up the entire web application to a 'Backup' folder with a version number to identify it. This can become problematic if websites are very large and they take a long time to backup. They take up a lot of space, most of which is from files that won't even change between versions.

The Deployment Tool simplifies the deployment procedure by identifying and backing up only those files that have changed between versions. You can decide where to back up the changed files, and how the application should be deployed. The folder structure of the backed up files is maintained throughout.

This application is provided 'as is' without any guarantee. Although it is designed to work without any problem, it is by no means guaranteed. It is good common sense to test it before running it on a live website. We want to hear your feedback on how to improve it, and if you ever do something to cause it to crash we want to know about it.

Should you wish to deploy applications to a non-windows server, we suggest you set up a shared drive to that server (using Samba for example), or map a network drive to an FTP site that will allow direct access.
